JU observes Selim Al Deen’s death anniv

The drama and dramatics department at Jahangirnagar University yesterday organised a daylong programme at their campus, marking the 17th death anniversary of renowned thespian and former teacher Selim Al Deen.
Prominent theatre and cultural personalities attended the event, which began early in the morning with a procession from the department building to Deen's grave. The procession was inaugurated by JU Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan.
The event, chaired by Prof Harun Rashid, featured a discussion on Deen.
Prof Abdus Selim of Central Women's University also spoke at the event.
A photography exhibition by Barin Ghosh, showcasing Deen's life and works, was also organised.
Born in Feni in 1949, Deen played a vital role in establishing the drama and dramatics department at JU. He passed away in 2008.
For his contribution to the arena of Bengali theatre, Deen has been honoured with the prestigious Ekushey Padak, Bangla Academy Award, Kothashahitya Award, Nandikar Award, and the National Film Award.
