Nationwide gas supply to be disrupted for 72 hours from tomorrow

One of the two LNG regasification units in Bangladesh will be under maintenance again for 72 hours from tomorrow noon, which will  lead to gas supply shortage countrywide, Petrobangla said in a press release today.

It said that from Friday 12:00pm to Monday 12:00pm, LNG supply will be suspended for a total of 72 hours from the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) operated by Excelerate Energy at Cox's Bazar's Moheshkhali for repair and maintenance work.

"During this period, another FSRU will continue to supply around 550-560 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcfd). Low gas pressure will prevail in some areas of the country due to a reduction in gas supply," it added.

This means the country's current supply of around 2,700 mmcfd now which will reduce to 2,500 mmcfd during the maintenance.

The country's total gas demand is around 3,800mmcfd.

"The authorities sincerely regret this temporary inconvenience to the public," it added.

The same FSRU was under maintenance from January 1-4 which resulted in severe gas supply crisis across the country.

The pipeline gas customers, both residential and industrial, have been facing acute shortage since December last year.
