Security measures have been tightened around the Ijtema venue in Gazipur's Tongi as Muslim devotees gather for the second phase of Biswa Ijtema, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan said today.

Speaking to reporters on the banks of the Turag River around 12:15 p.m., he stated, "You may have noticed a threat circulating on social media suggesting possible attacks here. We are not ruling it out and are taking necessary precautions."

"This may be an attempt to scare devotees and discourage attendance at the rally. However, I want to assure everyone that there is no reason to be afraid. Security personnel have been deployed throughout the area, and we have set up checkposts, installed CCTV cameras, and are monitoring the situation with drones," he added.

The commissioner emphasised the importance of keeping the roads clear for swift response in case of any incidents. "Our priority is to ensure safety. If any situation arises, we will not ignore it. We need to maintain open routes for quick evacuations and interventions," he said.

He also highlighted the significance of the event, stating, "This is the second-largest gathering of Muslims in the world. Today is Shab-e-Barat, which adds to its importance. A large number of religious Muslims will be present, and ensuring their security is our responsibility. The police and other security forces are on duty around the clock to maintain safety."

He further reassured attendees, noting the presence of a substantial security force. "I am confident there will be no lapse in security," he said.

At the same time, Syed Osama Islam, son of Tablighi Surah member Syed Wasiful Islam, dismissed concerns about online threats, calling them baseless rumors. "We will not be swayed by rumors... The prayers will take place as planned the day after tomorrow," he affirmed.
