UK issues travel alert centring BNP's Dhaka rally
The UK has issued a travel alert for its citizens travelling to Bangladesh, saying political rallies in Dhaka on December 10 may result in violent clashes, including with law enforcement agencies.
In the travel alert, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office today said political rallies are expected to take place on December 10, 2022 in Dhaka, with potential disruption to transport, communication networks and movement around the city.
"An increased law enforcement presence in the days surrounding 10 December 2022 is likely. You are advised to avoid all large gatherings, including political rallies," it said.
BNP has planned a massive rally on December 10, but the venue is yet to be decided.
The FCDO said up to 150,000 British nationals visit Bangladesh every year. Most visits are trouble free.
On the issue of UK's travel alert, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said the government will take all measures of security and there is no reason for anyone to be worried about what happens on December 10.
