Ex-CU BCL leader handed over to police after beating

A former Chhatra League leader of Chittagong University was beaten today while returning home after attending an examination.
The detainee, Samiul Ahsan, was a former sub-literary affairs secretary of CU Chhatra League, now a banned organisation.
A classmate of Samiul, seeking anonymity, alleged that a group of Islami Chhatra Shibir men beat up Samiul in front of the faculty while he was returning from the Marine Sciences and Fisheries Faculty.
He participated in an examination there.
They also beat him inside the proctorial office. However, proctor was not present in his office.
Later, he was handed over to Hathazari Police Station, Samiul's classmate said.
Talking to reporters, Mohammed Ali, secretary of the Islami Chhatra Shibir CU unit, said Shibir was not involved in the incident.
Ali Akbar, sub-inspector of the Hathazari Model Police Station, told this newspaper that Samiul is in their custody. "We will take necessary steps as per law," he added.
Earlier, on January 6, Sajjad Hossain, a student of the Department of Political Science and BCL member of Chittagong University was detained in connection with a case filed over the murder of Hridoy Tarua. He was also came to the campus to attend an exam at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Later he was handed over to police.
