JCD leader shot dead in Narsingdi clash
A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal was shot dead during a clash between two groups of the party in Narsingdi town this afternoon.
Deceased Sadekur Rahman, 32, was a former senior joint convener of District Chhatra Dal's convening committee, reports our local correspondent.
Sadekur was declared dead at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 7:30pm after he was taken there with bullet injuries, inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, told The Daily Star.
JCD leader Ashraful Islam, 20, who was also shot during the clash, is under treatment at the same hospital, the inspector added.
Local JCD leaders said on January 26 this year, the central JCD formed a five-member convening committee of the district with Siddiqur Rahman Nahid as president and Mehedi Hasan as general secretary.
Since then, JCD leaders and activists, who were deprived of posts in the committee, have been agitating for the cancellation of the committee. They were protesting near the district BNP office in Chinishpur this afternoon, said the district's former senior BNP vice-president Mainuddin Bhuiyan, adding that the leaders and activists of the other group of the JCD then attacked the protesters.
Fazle E Khoda, additional superintendent of police in Narsingdi, said police visited the spot after receiving information. The cause of the incident is being investigated.
