Order to withdraw Faridpur UNO for saying 'Awami League will return'

Allegations have surfaced against Al Mamun, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Faridpur's Sadarpur, for allegedly saying that "Awami League will return" during a recent event.

The comment, made in the context of a memorial meeting for martyrs of the anti-discrimination student movement, sparked swift action, with senior officials ordering his immediate withdrawal and promising disciplinary measures.

The allegations were raised during a meeting held yesterday afternoon at the Faridpur Deputy Commissioner's conference room. The meeting, chaired by Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, chief of the Public Administration Reform Commission, was attended by local dignitaries, student representatives, and commission members.

Anisur Rahman, a representative of the anti-discrimination student movement, presented the complaint, accusing Mamun of making partisan remarks at the memorial meeting. He claimed that Mamun, speaking as the chief guest, said, "Awami League will return," and used gestures and indirect remarks to signal his political bias.

Anisur also recounted another contentious statement allegedly made by Mamun at the same event, "Bangladesh will not run on any prescription of Delhi." The remarks were said to have been made in the presence of various leaders.

Following the allegations, Mokhles ur Rahman, senior secretary of public administration ministry, said, "This UNO will be withdrawn by today, and I will go back to the ministry tomorrow to suspend him," he declared during the meeting.

He also instructed the deputy commissioner of Faridpur to execute the order without delay, signalling a strong stance on the issue.

Al Mamun, however, denied the accusations. He said, "I did not say anything like that. Leaders of BNP and Jamaat were also present when I spoke to them. No such thing was said."
