Belgium hails CHT peace accord
Belgium has congratulated Bangladesh government for signing a peace accord last month to bring an end to years of unrest in the South Eastern part of the country, reports BSS.
"Belgium welcomes the signing of the peace treaty on December 2 last year which ends years of tension in the Chittagong Hill Tracts," a message from Brussels said.
The Belgium government congratulated the government of Bangladesh for the negotiations it had undertaken to this end since 1992 with the representatives of the tribal groups.
It expressed the hope that the modalities of the agreement will allow for a climate of peace and mutual understanding to be established in the region in full cooperation with all parties involved, the message added.
