Missing army man’s body recovered
Body of the missing army man who was buried under soil following a landslide in Manikchhari camp was found today after more than a day of frantic digging.
Sainik Md Azizur Rahman’s body was found around noon, said Md Jashimuddin, deputy assistant director of Chittagong divisional Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Inter Service Public Relation had confirmed deaths of four army personnel, including two officers, after the series of landslides and said of Sainik Aziz missing.
These army men were engaged in rescue operation amid heavy rain when the soil beneath Manikchhari camp gave away and buried them alive.
It was one of the worst landslides Bangladesh saw in a decade, where in Rangamati alone 105 people have been confirmed dead. The overall toll in the hilly areas stood at 143.
Meanwhile, a schoolgirl was killed in Sadar upazila of Cox’s Bazar as the wall of their house collapsed due to torrential rain early today.
Deceased Bhakti Rani, 16, was daughter of Nunuram Dey of Pashchim Hindupara village. She was a student of class X at Sagarmoni Ideal High School in the upazila, reports our local correspondent.
She was sleeping in her room when the wall collapsed amid torrential rain, said Sub-Inspector Md Khairuzzaman, in-charge of Police Investigation Centre at Eidgaon.
Later, family members along with locals recovered the body, the SI said.
