“I have no desire to be a star”

After gaining prominence in theatre, Maznun Mizan went onto carve success in the big and small screens. A true thespian, the actor does not shy away from challenging roles and embraces the unconventional. With Eid ul Azha just a couple of weeks away, the artiste has been busy at the filming sets, working scenes in plays spanning various genres.

The actor has almost wrapped up shooting for five ventures, and is scheduled to travel to Cox's Bazaar this week to shoot for Sagar Jahan's comedy “Average Aslam”. On his return, he will hit the sets once again for a yet untitled play helmed by Hasan Morshed, to be aired on Rtv. He is also cast in the urban romance tele-film “Ek Ratri”, scripted by Tabarak Hossain and directed by Majhar. Other actors joining the cast are Mahfuz Ahmed, Sadia Islam Mou and Runa Khan.

“As an actor who loves his craft, I have no desire to be a star or hero. I veer towards unconventional stories as they have so much to offer,” Mizan tells The Daily Star.

Mizan will also appear in another venture directed by Hasan Morshed, to be aired on Boishakhi TV. Still untitled, the play features a grim narrative revolving around a poor fishing village. “During monsoon, many are struck dead by lightning, and a medical research initiative to examine these bodies causes corrupt agents to lurk about in the village, encouraging families to give up the corpses in exchange for money. I play a fisherman who is struck dead, and my brother turns away these agents who come to collect my body. However, he is faced with a dilemma when my character's wife goes into labor, realising that there are no funds to cover the expenses to support the deceased's family,” elaborated Mizan. “It's truly a compelling story, and I am glad to be a part of it.”

The artiste is also playing the lead in Moinuddin Khokon's “Shottobadi Shojjon,” scripted by Aurangzeb, and scheduled to be aired on Asian TV. “This is a story of a man and his beloved pet cow, who is sentenced to banishment after grazing on someone else's property,” he added. Actress Nadia will play the female lead as his wife in the play.

Other ventures including Maznun Mizan is the Anjan Aich-scripted and directed comedy “Buno Chalte”. The play, to be telecast on Maasranga, will feature Farhana Mili as the co-lead. Maznun Mizan has also signed on to be part of the main cast of “Matir Putul”, helmed by Sadeque Siddiqui.
