Protest at RU over kidnapping of female student
Students of Rajshahi University are demonstrating at campus over a kidnapping of a residential female student by a man this morning.
Female students were staging a sit-in near the residence of Vice Chancellor, throwing an ultimatum to the authorities and demanding to bring her back in two hours.
The fourth year student of Bangla and a resident of Taposhi Rabeya Hall, was picked up into a microbus this morning from campus.
Proctor Professor Md Lutfor Rahman acknowledged the fact. He said, the university authorities have informed the police in this regard.
Our local staff correspondent quotes victim’s friends to report that the man who picked her up was one Sohel Rana, the man she was married to last year.
However, according to her friends, they divorced in September this year.
Witness said, the kidnapped student was walking to an exam hall when her ex-husband came in a microbus and stopped in front of her barring her way around 8:30am.
After an altercation, Shohel forcefully picked up the female student in the microbus and left.
Amzad Hossain, father of the victim, filed an abduction case against Sohel Rana with Motihar Police Station this evening.
Last reported, the students withdrew around dusk, declaring to resume tomorrow in front of the VC’s residence, our correspondent reports from the spot.
