Textbooks to be made easy gradually: Nahid

Textbooks enlisted in the syllabus under all education boards of the country will be gradually made easy for students, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said today.

“In the meantime, books of 12 subjects of secondary level have already been revised and printed after revision, which will be distributed in the upcoming school year,” Nahid told reporters after a meeting with top educationists of the country at the Education Ministry’s conference room in Dhaka.

The minister also said they will take opinion from the teachers at the grass root level to bring further changes into other textbooks.

Over the question paper leak issue, Nahid said it has been happening for a long time but there was not much hype before.

He said they have been able to curb question paper leak by strengthening vigilance at the Bangladesh Government Press (BG Press) and district and upazila level offices.

There has not been any incident of question paper leakage in the last two months, he said.

He also accused the teachers of leaking question papers and said teachers are “leaking question papers” in the morning of the exam day.

He said teachers have been asked to enter exam centre 30 minutes before examinations begin. “Even teachers won’t be allowed open the file of question papers 30 minutes before starting examinations.”

The minister blamed that some teachers lack ethics. “We are trying to improve their morality.”
