2 girls ‘raped’ in Joypurhat, Savar

A madrasa student was reportedly gang-raped in Joypurhat and a garment worker was “raped” in Savar last night.

The ninth grader of a madrasa was allegedly gang-raped by some unidentified culprits when she was returning home from an Islamic function in Joypurhat Sadar upazila around 9:00pm last night, police said.

The 15-year-old girl is now battling for her life in unconscious state at Joypurhat Modern Hospital, said Selim Hossain, officer-in-charge of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station.

Father of the girl filed a rape case with Joypurhat Sadar Police Station today, the OC told our Dinajpur correspondent.

Police are yet to trace the rapists. They are trying to arrest the rapists, the police official said.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old garment worker was allegedly raped in Zirane area of Ashulia last night, said Abdul Awal, officer in-charge of Ashulia Police Station. 

The victim went for shopping at a local market around 3:00pm and she was found in an unconscious state beside Nabinagar-Chandra highway around 10:00pm, the OC told our local correspondent quoting victim’s family members.

The swing operator of a local garments factory was taken to One Stop Crises Centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment, the police official said.

“It is sure that she was raped. But who are involved with the incident is still unknown as the victim is still unconscious,” said the OC.  

Police have picked up one Rasel Mia, 25, for interrogation in connection with the incident, he said.
