Art show on Rohingyas begins in city

A weeklong art exhibition on Rohingya refugees kicked off at Liberation War Museum on Wednesday with lighting the candles.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is hosting the exhibition in collaboration with the Cox's Bazar Art Club and the Liberation War Museum.

The exhibition titled "Art for Humanity: The Flight and Resilience of the Rohingya" will continue till June 28 June at the Liberation War Museum art gallery.

UN Resident Coordinator in Dhaka Mia Seppo, Member Secretary and Trustee of the Liberation War Museum Ziaudding Tariq Ali, former Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University Professor Abul Burk Alvi, President of the Cox's Bazar Art Club Tanbir Sarwar Rana and Deputy Country Representative of UNHCR Bangladesh Papa Kysma Sylla jointly inaugurated the exhibition.

Paintings drawn by the Rohingya refugee children are also being displayed in the exhibition.

With the overarching motto of "Art for Humanity", artists across Bangladesh and beyond have come together and used their brush strokes to depict the journey, struggle and also the resilience of the Rohingya from Myanmar.

Those paintings, UNHCR says, symbolise not only the plight of the Rohingya but also the spirit of humanity which the people of Bangladesh demonstrated. Paintings by the Rohingya children are also in display.
