The Brazil midfielder Paulinho labelled his Barcelona and Brazil team mate Philippe Coutinho as a ‘phenomenon’ after the Selecao’s 2-0 victory against Serbia in their last match of the group stage at the Spartak Stadium to go through to the second round of the tournament as the Group E champions.
Paulinho opened the scoring for the Selecao in the 36th minute of the game, courtesy of a sublime through ball from Coutinho that found its way to the 29-year old among several Serbian players.
“I'm always looking for space and that's the way it happened for the first goal,” Paulinho explained afterwards when discussing his strike, as reported by Marca.
“The phenomenon Coutinho gave me a great assist and I managed to score.
“Our goal was to reach the round of 16 and that's where we are, I'm not worried about Germany and won't comment on what happened to them.” Paulinho concluded.
The man who netted the second goal, Thiago Silva, was also very pleased with what he saw from the side as Brazil claimed top spot in the group.
“I saw a lot of positive things and from the first game to this point, we’ve done well,” Thiago said, according to reports from Marca.
