The round of 16 starting today will see a new first for the World Cup as teams will be allowed a fourth substitute if games go into extra time.
In previous World Cups, teams were allowed three substitutes regardless of the length of the match. With the rest of the matches in the ongoing World Cup in Russia being knockout encounters, sides will have the option of an extra substitute once the match moves beyond regulation time.
The game's global governing body FIFA approved the use of the video assistant referee and the fourth substitute for this World Cup in March 2018.
