Draft law to end chaos on roads: Quader
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader claimed today that the chaos on roads will go once the proposed Road Safety Act is enacted.
“The draft act that will be discussed in the next cabinet meeting on Monday will help bring discipline on roads,” he told reporters at the Secretariat in Dhaka.
“Everyone will have to abide by the act once effective,” he said and added, “We will discuss all the issues relating to road crashes, reckless driving, wrong side driving and jaywalking.”
He believes, reckless driving and indiscriminate deaths on roads can be stopped with the help of the proposed law. “It is meaningless to make a law if the road situation remains the same.”
Asked about the demands of the students regarding road safety, he said the act will have all the solutions.
Asked what steps the government should take since the students continued their agitation, the minister did not reply directly. However, he said, “We have told them that their demands will be met and asked them to leave the roads.”
