BNP today raised a question over the validity of Awami League former general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam’s candidature claiming that he had no signature in his nomination paper.
“Syed Ashraf is ill and now undergoing treatment at a Thailand hospital in a senseless condition, but his fingerprint and signature have been put in his nomination paper. How did those come?” BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said.
“Then how his (Ashraf) nomination becomes valid?” Rizvi, also the spokesperson of BNP, raised the question while addressing a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka this noon.
“Ashraful’s nomination paper has been granted by the Election Commission despite not having his signature as the commission treats them as saint and sanyasi,” he claimed.
Syed Ashraful Islam has got the nomination from the Kishoreganj-1 constituency.
