Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda has instructed lawmen to curb violence arising in the country ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Referring the recent spate of incidents and fatalities taking place, the CEC instructed lawmen to avert similar incidents from taking place in the future.
“We cannot trash the possibility of attempts to sabotage the upcoming polls,” he said, speaking in meeting with lawmen and intelligence officers in Agargaon.
The CEC warned there may be the hand of a third party or vested quarter in play behind the recent acts of violence centring the December 30 election.
“You have to remain alert and vigil on those who do not want peace in the country’s political scenario,” he told the law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
CEC Huda called upon the officials of law enforcement and intelligence agencies to perform their duties with utmost professionalism and integrity for a free, fair and credible election.
The CEC also instructed the law enforcers not to arrest anyone without valid reason and not to file any case motivated to cause harassment against political activists.
