The mayor of Puthia municipality in Rajshahi Rabiul Alam was assaulted and his car was vandalised during a clash between two factions of Awami League on Puthia Police Station this afternoon.

The clash took place between the supporters of the mayor and AL General Secretary of Puthia municipality unit Shahriar Rahim Kanak.

No one suffered major injuries in the clash, reports our Rajshahi correspondent quoting Officer-in-charge of the local police station Shakil Uddin Ahmed.

Why did the clash break out?

Rabiul Alam lodged a complaint after two crude bombs exploded near his house hours after the general election ended yesterday. Following the complaint, police arrested two supporters of Kanak.

Being Informed, Kanak went to Puthia Police Station to urge the police personnel to release the duo. But he locked into a quarrel with Rabiul Alam, who was already present there, leading to the clash, the OC said.

Police had to charge batons to calm the situation.
