Bangladesh's preparations ahead of their first World Cup match against South Africa at The Oval on Sunday may have sustained a huge blow as Tamim Iqbal walked off the nets at London's famous ground clutching his left wrist after being hit in the area with a ball during the ongoing practice session today.
Bangladesh's highest run-scorer and batsman who sets the tone of the innings was engaged in a net session where he was facing fast balls delivered through a sidearm by fielding coach Tim Cook. At about 11:30 pm local time he was hit on the left wrist by a bouncer and left the session immediately, heading to the dressing room.
"He just got hit in the nets. We haven't got any reports on him yet; he's being assessed as we speak now, so unfortunately I can't give you any update on that," said Bangladesh bowling coach Courtney Walsh in a press conference that started within five minutes of Tamim going into the dressing room.
"I just have to wait until I get the report. I just don't want to be misquoted saying what I think it might be when I am not sure. It's a concern because he came off straight away, as soon as we get the report I am sure that will be passed down."
Team manager Khaled Mahmud however informed that the left-hander is feeling well and might go for a scan later today.
"It's a bit too early to say anything about his injury. However, Tamim is feeling quite well. He said there is no need to do any scan. But we will do a scan today as a precautionary measure." said Mahmud
Tamim also missed Bangladesh's warm-up game against India in Cardiff on May 28, when he was rested as a precautionary measure as the left-hander experienced discomfort after taking a spill during fielding practice the previous day.
