Former Australia batsman Michael Hussey was all praises for the Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who had put in an all-round performance against Afghanistan to keep Tigers' semifinal hopes alive, during a post match analysis by ESPNCricInfo.
The inspiring performances by Shakib led Bangladesh to their third win in the mega event and it meant Bangladesh jumped up to the fifth position in the points table. The No. 1 ODI all-rounder became only the second player to score 51 runs and scalp five wickets in a World Cup match.
"He is probably being the player of the tournament so far and I don't think anyone can dispute that. He has been instrumental in putting Bangladesh in the fifth position and a possible fourth." said Hussey in the post match analysis.
Shakib has been in the middle of almost every conversation of the World Cup with his consistent performances in the tournament. Shakib has smashed two centuries and three fifties in the World Cup and was the highest run-getter till Australia opener David Warner and skipper Aaron Finch scored 53 and 100 respectively in their ongoing high volume match against England in Lord's to overtake him in the list. The allrounder also scalped 10 wickets in the tournament that sees him in the top 10 of the wicket takers' list. With all the accolades of Shakib's career, Hussey believed the 32-year old has earned the right to be placed among the best all-rounders to have donned this game.
"I think he is in the conversation with his contemporaries without doubt. Those numbers are incredible." said the former Australian.
"Over the course of his career he has been very under–rated but given the numbers, once Shakib finishes his career he going to go down as one of the greats and certainly the greatest player to have played for Bangladesh." concluded Hussey.
