Mash accepts full responsibility

Bangladesh cricket team arrived at Dhaka today upon departure from Heathrow yesterday following the end of their World Cup campaign where they finished on eighth in the group standings. Upon arrival, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took full responsibility for the dismal performances at the later stage of the tournament.

"As a captain, when the team does not fulfill expectations, then I will have to accept criticism," the skipper said while talking to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today.

Bangladesh lost to Australia but gave a valiant chase after the Aussies scored 381. In the pivotal match against India they lost momentum in key phases to lose by 28 runs before a dismal performance against Pakistan in the last group stage match. Mashrafe said that while he has to take responsibility, some things did not go their way.

"Ofcourse I am taking full responsibility and at the same time it is normal that criticism will take place after a big tournament. If some things went in our favour, things could have turned out differently."

There has been a lot of interest regarding Mashrafe's retirement plans but the skipper did not divulge anything on the matter. "Just arrived, I have not come to a decision on the Sri Lanka series, he concluded.
