‘Robber’ killed in Chattogram ‘gunfight’
An alleged robber was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram this afternoon.
Deceased Md Jaker, 40, was a listed criminal in the upazila and has been accused in at least 28 cases including robbery and murder filed with different police stations, our Chattogram correspondent reports quoting Major Mahedi Hasan, deputy director of Rab-7.
Tipped off that Jaker and his gang members took positions in a hilly area of Purba Chambal this afternoon, a team of the elite force went to the area to arrest them and located their spot through a drone camera, said the Rab official.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire at them, said Major Mahedi, adding that the Rab members retaliated, triggering a gunfight.
Later, the bullet-hit body of Jaker was recovered from the spot, the official said, adding that Jaker’s cohorts managed to flee the scene.
Rab also seized around 11 different types of firearms and huge number of bullets from the spot, he also said.
The body was sent to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy, Major Mahedi added.
