Throat-slit bodies of 2 fish farmers found in Meherpur
The throat-slit bodies of two fish farmer were recovered from the bank of a local water body in Maherpur Sadar upazila early today.
The deceased are Rokonuzzaman and Hasan Ali, hailed from Dorbeshpur area in the upazila, our Kushtia correspondent reports quoting police.
Rokonuzzaman and Hasan Ali leased Shailmari Beel from the government four years ago and they along with the help of some labourers use to guard the waterbody.
Around 1:30am today, a gang of criminals attacked Rokonuzzaman and Hasan Ali when they were sleeping inside a thached hut on the bank of Shailmari Beel, said Shah Dara Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Meherpur Sadar Police Station.
The criminals slit their throats with sharp weapons and left the spot, the OC said.
Sensing something amiss, two other labourers ran to them and found the throat-slit bodies of Roknuzzaman and Hasan, the OC said.
The bodies were sent to Meherpur General Hospital, he police official added.
While visiting the spot early today, superintended of Meherpur police SM Murad Ali said they are investigating the killings.
