Coast guards recover 6 geckos during drive in Barguna, 1 held
Coast Guard personnel have recovered six geckos, more popularly known as Takshak, during a drive in Manikkhali village under Barguna's Patharghata upazila and detained one person in this connection.
The arrestee was identified as Riaz Akon (40), a resident of Manikkhali area.
Riaz was detained around 7:00pm on Wednesday, said Lieutenant Fahim Shahriar, commander of Coast Guard South Zone's Patharghata station.
Catching, killing and trafficking of Takshaks is prohibited and a punishable offense under Section 6 of the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act, 2012, he said.
The reptiles were handed over to Bangladesh Forest Department this morning and a case has been filed against Riaz with Patharghata Police Station, the Coast Guard official added.
