3 dead dolphins found on Kuakata beach
Three dead dolphins, with injury marks on their bodies, have been found at different points of Kuakata sea beach recently.
A four feet long dead dolphin floated to the Zero Point area yesterday afternoon with the tide, reports our Patuakhali correspondent quoting locals. Two other dolphins -- one eight and the other 10 feet long -- also floated ashore on Sunday, May 11.
On Sunday, one of the two dolphins was found on the beach at Computer Point while the other was found near Lemburchar area, said Additional Superintendent of Kuakata Tourist Police Sohrab Hossain.
Locals informed police upon coming across the dolphins. Later, members of police, fisheries department and Kuakata municipality authorities visited the sites and buried the dolphins.
Patuakhali District Fisheries Officer Mollah Emdadullah said the dolphins could have died due to injuries sustained after being caught in fishermen's nets in the deep sea.
Abu Hasnat Mohammad Shahidul Haque, Kalapara upazila nirbahi officer and also chairman of Kuakata Beach Management Committee, said the dead dolphins were buried to prevent pollution.
