PUST teacher files defamation case against former VC

A teacher of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) -- Awal Kabir Joy – today filed a defamation case of Tk 50 crore against former vice chancellor Professor M Rostom Ali.

In the case filed three years after the incident, Awal Kabir, former proctor of the university, brought allegation of barring him from entering regent board meeting in December 23, 2019, though he is a member of the board.

However, a local court accepted the case and summoned the accused on September 1, sources at the court told our Pabna correspondent.

When contacted, former VC Rostom claimed that the case was filed for harassing and defaming him. He did everything as per the regent board's decision, he added.

When asked about the reason behind filing case after three years, Awal Kabir, a teacher of Social Work department, said that he was unable to file a case as the VC was in the chair of the board. The VC ended his tenure on March 6.
