Boy rescued after 44 days of abduction, 2 held
A five-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from Dhaka 44 days ago, has been rescued from Sreepur upazila in Gazipur last night.
Detectives, in separate drives, arrested two persons -- Md Abdul Jobbar alias Thandu and his wife Nazma Akhter – from Gazipur and Gaibandha last night for their alleged involvement with the abduction, Monirul Islam, additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said at a press briefing today.
Mobarok, 5, son of fruit vendor Md Faruk, was abducted from outside of his Uttara home on December 29 last year. Two days later, the kidnappers demanded Tk 5 lakh in ransom.
The abductors threatened to kill the boy if the family informed the police.
Two separate cases were filed in this connection.
Jobbar was arrested from Saghata area of Gaibandha district and his wife from Mawna of Gazipur, the additional commissioner said adding that the boy was kept under Nazma’s supervision at Mawna.
Faruk had sent Tk 17,770 in total to the kidnappers through bKash, the additional commissioner said.
“Arrestee Jobbar has confessed to his involvement with the kidnapping during the primary interrogation”, the police official added.
