8 burnt in Narayanganj spinning mill fire
Eight labourers were burnt in an effort to douse a fire that broke out at a spinning mill in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj early today.
The wounded – Ismail, 42, Rokon-uz-Zaman, 37, Hafizul Islam, 18, Nasima, 16, Hawa, 18, Wadud, 25, Asma, 30, and Afroza, 30, – have been admitted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), reports our Narayanganj correspondent.
The fire presumably originated from a gas leak inside Nawab spinning mill in Jatramura area around 3:00am, said Md Momtaz Uddin, deputy director of district Fire Service and Civil Defence.
On information, two fire fighting units from Demra of the capital and Narayanganj fire services rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control after a two-hour frantic effort.
Meanwhile, the eight labourers were burnt in their attempt to douse the fire.
The mill director, Atikur Rahman, said the fire caused a total loss of Tk 50 crores.
