SC puts stay on ex-MP Rana’s bail
Former lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana’s High Court bail in the Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case has been put on hold.
Supreme Court Chamber Judge Justice Hassan Foez Siddique put the injunction on the Awami League leader’s bail on a government petition today.
He placed the issue for a full bench hearing on March 31, Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah told The Daily Star after the order was passed.
Now, Rana, former Awami League lawmaker from Tangail-3 constituency, will not be able to walk out on bail until further order of the apex court.
Previously, on March 14, a High Court bench granted bail to former lawmaker Rana. It had paved the way for his release from imprisonment.
Case statement says, Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed’s bullet-hit body was recovered on January 18, 2013. Later, police found proof of involvement of Rana and his three brothers in the killing.
Rana was sent to jail after his surrender before a lower court in July 2015 in connection with the case.
