Quader for not making ‘irresponsible remarks’

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today called upon his fellow politicians, ministers and high-ups of the government to refrain from making irresponsible remarks that may embarrass the government and lead to any fresh crisis.

“Time is not favourable. I am requesting my fellow ministers and leaders not to make any irresponsible comments that may embarrass the government,” Quader said.

Quader, also the Awami League general secretary, came up with the call hinting at Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan’s comment over a recent road accident that triggered nationwide student movement for safe roads.

“We should discuss with our prime minister before speaking about any policy related issues,” he said.

The minister was addressing a programme at Dhanmondi Road-32 in Dhaka, organised to mark the National Mourning Day on August 15 with due respect.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated along with most of his family members on August 15, 1975.

The minister also urged his fellow ministers of the government and top leadership of the ruling Awami League to pay attention to their respective tasks without making excessive words.   

Quader said that Bangabandhu, during his leadership, had expressed his sadness saying that the leaders and ministers of his government were eager to visit foreign countries rather than working.   

“I am requesting my fellow ministers to recall the speech. We should take lesson from our Father of the Nation,” the Awami League leader said.

Quader also came down heavily on BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed for his recent remark that the country’s situation will be changed very soon, and asked him how and why the situation will be changed.

‘Is there any magic in Moudud’s hands?” Quader asked, adding that only peoples’ mandates can change the situation, otherwise not.

“If BNP wants to change the country’s situation through other means, its dream will mix up in the air like camphor,” the minister said.

While speaking at a discussion in Dhaka yesterday, Moudud said, “Observing the overall situation, it seems that there’s no government in the country... I would like to say the country’s political situation will be changed very soon. Now, it’s the last time for a change.”

“We know everything about what sort of secret meetings you have held with whom and where, and who will change the government. We are monitoring everything with endurance and will continue to do so. We will take step at appropriate time,” Quader warned.
