Same old thing
The unbearable July sun was beating down on the pedestrians mercilessly. The fortunate ones were in their cars, the windows shut and the air conditioner blasting on full speed. At least the pedestrians were able to go towards their destination. The fortunate ones were sitting in stagnant traffic and the air surrounding them seemed to be vibrating from the heat given off by the cars. My immediate thought was of how these thoughtless people are causing global warming. Why not just turn off the car when you're sitting in the traffic for too long? This is a constant cycle where I notice a million things wrong with society but do nothing to change it.
I wake up exactly at 7 a.m. every day and still manage to get a good eight hours of sleep. In the morning, the first thing I do is drink a full glass of water with the healthy breakfasts they recommend on magazines. According to science, all these will help your body release the feel good chemicals. But, as I walk down these streets in the morning, every day my brain attacks me with the futility of it all. I might just feel that way because in the background I'm always listening to 30 something dudes crying about their broken hearts along to rock music. I have contemplated switching to audio books instead for the commutes. Maybe, I'll do that next week.
My destination is a decrepit brick building in a lane full of similar decrepit buildings. In short, it's not something one gets excited to see every day. My job there is to sit on a bench and sign papers from 9-5. Although I've been sitting on benches and writing on papers all my life, this is different. Or, that's what I've been told all my life. It's different because now I can go to Hawaii or Indonesia or Switzerland on my own accord. I even got that really expensive dress for myself last week without having to prepare a whole presentation on why I need it. But I try not to think too much about these differences because this one time they all started melting into nothing when I thought about them deeply. I don't really care much about this decrepit brick building but I just go there because that's what I've been told all my life.
