Razzak’s 12 seals fourth title for South
South Zone clinched their fourth Bangladesh Cricket League title after a dominant performance from Abdur Razzak who followed up his seven-wicket haul in the first innings with a five-wicket haul in the second innings as the South defeated North Zone by nine wickets.
Having been champions in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons, the team had become runners up in 2016-17 before winning the title last year. This season they once again showed winning mentality to attain their fourth title in six seasons. Razzak hailed the performance of the unit as 'outstanding'.
"Definitely it's a very good feeling to win the championship. We were the champions last season and the season before we had been the runners up. So that makes it two championship titles and a runners-up trophy in three years," captain Razzak said.
"I think that it is an outstanding performance by a team. This tournament is franchise-endorsed and Walton, Prime Bank and Islami bank are here and I hope they have fulfilled what they expected from this tournament," he added.
South Zone were in a dominant position having posted 541 in the first innings thanks to Anamul Haque's 180 after Razzak's seven in the first innings had put paid to North's first innings for 293. Today at Chittagong, North continued from their overnight score of 186 for five, needing 61 more to avoid an innings defeat. North Zone were bowled out for 280 in the second innings having batted under 25 overs today.
Anamul Haque and Fazle Ahmed made short work of the chase in the second innings as the required runs were picked up in 7.1 overs.
