50-over Asia Cup to be held in September 

The 2023 Asia Cup is set to be held in September and will be played in the 50-over format to ramp up preparations for the World Cup in India in November, the president of the Asian Cricket Council, Jay Shah announced on Thursday.
 

In a tweet, Shah revealed the ACC's pathway structure and the cricket calendars for 2023 and 2024 but didn't announce the venue or the itinerary for the showpiece event which is set to be held in Pakistan this year.

India had already ruled out any possibilities for them to make the journey across the border due to political tensions and the then Pakistan Cricket Board president Ramiz Raza responded by threatening to boycott the tournament if Pakistan were removed as hosts.

Shah hinted at moving the tournament to a neutral venue but is yet to announce a decision.

"Presenting the @ACCMedia1 pathway structure & cricket calendars for 2023 & 2024! This signals our unparalleled efforts & passion to take this game to new heights. With cricketers across countries gearing up for spectacular performances, it promises to be a good time for cricket," he tweeted.

The archrivals were drawn in Group A along with Sri Lanka while Bangladesh and Afghanistan were grouped in Group B which will see a qualifying team enter from the qualifiers.

Sri Lanka clinched the 2022 edition beating Pakistan by 23 runs in the final. The tournament, which was took place in the UAE, was played in the T20 format to fine tune preparations for the T20 World Cup in October-November.
