Fletcher credits Klusener for comeback
Khulna Tigers batsman Andre Fletcher was in the mood for demolition in the match against Sylhet Sixers, recording his second fifty in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) during a nine-wicket win. After two back-to-back losses at Chattogram, Fletcher revealed that coach Lance Klusener revived their spirits and uplifted their morale before yesterday' game. The 99-run partnership with Soumya Sarkar was also a boost to the batter's confidence, but above all Fletcher revealed how he and other overseas stars revel at chance to play in Chattogram.
"We were under a bit of pressure after losing the last two games. The chat we had in the dressing room and the way the coach uplifted the players, we decided to come out and play fearless cricket. The bowlers bowled really well and Soumya is back while I'm happy to be amongst the runs," he said.
Wickets in Dhaka, especially in day matches, have not produced big runs. Fletcher and Soumya's approach was a departure from the usual tactics at Mirpur. The Powerplay produced 65 runs for Khulna, with spinners going for big runs as Fletcher remained unbeaten.
"I wouldn't say they [Dhaka wickets] are poor. I think the wicket is not actually easy. It's a wicket where you have to choose the bowlers to go after. We realised the seamers were getting purchase and extra bounce off the wicket. Soumya and I decided to try our best not to let the seamers get us out. With the bounce they got, it was easier against spinners. We had that communication and it worked out really well," he said.
"We were struggling in the Powerplay but it's good that we saw out the Powerplay. It's good for the team when the openers can give that platform.
"I love Chattogram to be honest, whether you are batting in the day or night, the wicket is beautiful. Every overseas player, whenever we go into Chattogram, we have a big smile on our faces. It's not that Dhaka has bad wickets, but it's just that it gives you more of a challenge. Your technique comes into play which is good. It helps us as batter but obviously a batter would like to bat on a belter."
