Rain washes out Friday BPL encounters
Due to rain in the capital, Friday's both matches of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) were washed out without a single ball being bowled.
After the day match between Sylhet Sunrisers and Fortune Barishal was abandoned at 3:45pm at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, the night match between Minister Group Dhaka and Comilla Victorians also suffered the same fate at the same venue. The match officials called off the game at 8:40pm.
None of the matches even saw the toss take place, with rain starting just shortly before the toss of the first game. All the four teams take a point each.
As per the latest standings, Comilla are on top of the table with nine points from six outings. Shakib Al Hasan's Barishal are second with the same number of points as Comilla but have played a game more than the table toppers.
Dhaka, meanwhile, are third with seven points from as many games and Sylhet are at the bottom with just three points from one win in six encounters.
The players of all four sides had, however, made it to the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium for their matches and were also seen warming up.
Before today's match was abandoned, Mosaddek Hossain's Sylhet had already lost four of their five encounters.
The BPL will now see a two-day break and will resume in Sylhet with Comilla taking on Barishal at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on February 7. On the same day, home side Sylhet will also face Khulna Tigers in the night match at the same venue.
