RMG workers block Dhaka-Tangail highway
Workers of That's It Knits Ltd blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway this morning, to press home various demands, including compensation for fellow workers injured in an accident while going to work yesterday on a company car.
They gathered at the factory entrance in Zirani Bazar around 8:00am and formed a human chain, gradually blocking the Dhaka-Tangail highway.
Meanwhile, Beximco workers have taken position on the highway's Chakraborty intersection for the eighth day, demanding payment of outstanding salaries for the month of October, said Mozammal Haque, a sub-inspector of Kashimpur Police Station.
This led to heavy traffic on the Chandra and Bhogra roads, he added.
In a similar turn of events, workers of Mahmud Denims Ltd in Safipur area of Kaliakoir have staged a sit-in in front of the residence of their owner in Gulshan, demanding outstanding salaries for two months, said Jalal Howlader, general secretary (Gazipur) of Bangladesh Garment and Sweater Workers Trade Union Centre.
The authorities of all three companies were unreachable over phone.
