‘Cancelling seats over attempted suicide’: RU hall withdraws notice
Authorities of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Hall at Rajshahi University have withdrawn a circular regarding cancellation of seat allotment at the residential hall if a student attempts to commit suicide.
The circular issued yesterday (March 13, 2022), was signed by the hall Provost Professor Sharmistha Roy.
Withdrawing the notice, the authorities said many students were shocked to see the notice over suicide attempts. The notice was not issued to hurt anyone's feelings, hall authorities said.
Earlier on February 27, the hall issued a notice saying that if the resident students have any kind of sleeping pills, drugs or attempt to commit suicide, their residency will be cancelled.
Prof Sharmistha told The Daily Star's RU correspondent, "The notification was circulated only with the aim of raising awareness among the students. But later we realised the students may have been hurt by the language of the notice. So, we have withdrawn the notice. We will not take any decision that goes against the students."
