CU official gets threat of ‘enforced disappearance’ from 2 BCL leaders
The chief security officer of University of Chittagong (CU) received a threat of "enforced disappearance" from two leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of the university unit this afternoon.
Abdur Razzak, chief security officer of CU, alleged that CU unit BCL President Rezaul Haque Rubel and his aide Sumon Nasir threatened him of enforced disappearance, reports a correspondent from CU.
They forced me to withdraw the transfer order of a security official named Jose Mohammad Jony. At the same time, Sumon Nasir pulled his face mask twice and assaulted him physically, Razzak alleged.
Branding me as a "Jamaat agent", Sumon Nasir threatened to make me disappear, Razzak alleged.
He said he verbally informed the matter to CU Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Proctor of the university.
Earlier, Jony was transferred to the Sheikh Hasina Hall from the security office last month because of a manpower crisis but he didn't join there.
Contacted, Jony said that he has been working in the security office for the last 32 years as supervisor.
"But Razzak transferred me as a guard at the Sheikh Hasina Hall," Jony said, calling the transfer unfair.
"I informed the matter to my son Md Naeem who later informed CU unit BCL President Rezaul Haque Rubel."
Denying the allegation of assaulting the security official, BCL leader Sumon Nasir claimed they went to talk with Abdur Razzak about pasting posters on the campus by Chhatra Shibir men last night.
Asked about the threat of enforced disappearance, he claimed he did not give him any such threat.
CU unit BCL President Rezaul Haque Rubel claimed that he was not aware of this incident.
When contacted, CU Proctor Rabiul Hasan Bhuiyan said they heard of the incident.
"After investigation, we will take necessary action according to the rules of the university," he informed.
