DU decides to make 13 teacher posts vacant
Dhaka University (DU) authorities yesterday night took the decision to announce positions of 13 teachers, who went abroad to study but did not return, as vacant.
The decision was made at a meeting of the university syndicate, its highest decision making body.
"The syndicate has taken the decision to announce the positions as vacant," DU Vice Chancellor Prof M Akhtaruzzaman said after the meeting.
Authorities will be able to appoint new teachers in these posts, said DU pro-VC Prof Muhammad Samad, adding that these 13 teachers owe the university Tk 9 lakh to 53 lakh. "They are abroad; many of them also expressed the desire to resign. If they return the money, they can resign."
Some of them went abroad before 2015, he said.
"We are also planning to send letters to the teachers and their employers," Samad added.
