False allegations: MMC suspends 10 students including BCL GS
The authorities of Mymensingh Medical College (MMC) today suspended 10 students, including Chattra League college unit general secretary, on various terms for bringing false allegations against a teacher.
The decision was taken at the college's academic council meeting following the recommendation of the college's disciplinary body, reports our Mymensingh correspondent quoting the college Principal Prof Dr Chittaranjan Debnath.
Md Abdulalh Al Hasan was suspended for three years while Fayadur Rahman Akash and Tamanna Taskin were suspended for two years each, according to MMC sources.
The other seven suspended students are -- Suniti Kumar Das, Sanbim Khan, Mahidul Haque, Tanbin Hasan, Kashfi Tabriz, Rappu Karmakar, and Sakhawat Hossain Sifat.
The suspended students would not be allowed to stay in the college hostel during the suspension period, as per the order of the authorities.
The college authorities also warned eight more students not to participate in any activities that go against the college discipline.
According to campus sources, on behalf of a female student, Md Abdulalh Al Hasan, GS of the college unit BCL earlier raised allegations against Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad, the head of surgery department at MMC, for holding practical and viva examinations before outsiders on February 13.
He also alleged that the teacher offered an illicit proposal to the female student.
Besides, the BCL leader also held a human chain on the campus demanding the punishment of the teacher on February 23.
The following day, the college authority formed a five-member probe committee, headed by Prof Dr Tayeba Tanjin Mirza, head of gynecology department and the committees submitted the report to the authority today where the committee said the allegation brought against the teacher was false, baseless, and motivated.
However, the teachers of the college also held a human chain and started to abstain from taking classes since February 28, protesting the false allegations against the teacher.
Talking to this correspondent, Anupam Saha, president of BCL MMC unit said they agreed to the reports submitted by the probe committee.
The organisation will not take the responsibility of personal mistake of any BCL man, he added.
