No electricity at 4 Comilla University halls for 3 days, students protest
Students of four residential halls at Comilla University formed a human chain in front of the Vice-Chancellor's residence this afternoon demanding to ensure electricity connections at the halls, which are out of electricity for the last three days.
The students chanted slogans demanding to provide electricity at their halls, reports our Cumilla correspondent quoting the demonstrators.
Talking to the students of the four residential halls of the university, this correspondent came to know that although there is electricity in the administrative and academic buildings of the university, there is no electricity at Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhurani, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Shaheed Dhirendranath halls since Wednesday (March 16, 2022).
Due to the lack of electricity, students are suffering from water, study disturbance, sleeping and mosquito problems, they said.
"There is no water in the washrooms when we want to take bath. We cannot sleep at night due to mosquito bites and severe hot weather. If this problem is not resolved quickly, we will not be able to take the preparation for our exams and will not be able to submit our assignments," said Sharif, a residential student of a hall.
Students alleged that the Engineering department of the university is yet to find out the cause of the power outage let alone take any steps to mitigate the problem.
Asked, Abdul Latif, executive engineer of the university's Engineering Department said the issue is under the Department of Electronic. They can say about this problem, he said.
This correspondent could not reach Jakir Hossain, engineer of the Department of Electronic despite repeated attempts.
Terming the problem horrible, Prof Md Abu Taher, registrar of the university said, he talked with the Department of Electronics and told them to provide electricity connection at four halls as soon as possible.
"If necessary, I told them to take help from PDB," he added.
