PhD degree mandatory to become professor, associate professor: DU

The Dhaka University authorities have finally decided to mandate PhD degrees for promotion of teachers as associate professor and professor at the university.

The decision came at the academic council meeting with DU Vice-Chancellor Prof M Akhtaruzzaman in the chair today, reports our DU correspondent.

Talking to the correspondent, the DU VC said the decision has been taken to encourage the quality of the university and the basic research of teachers.

He said the matter would be approved at the next syndicate meeting.

The VC also said the research of PhD and MPhil students at the university will now be opened online so that others can learn about their research.

Besides, the finance of scholarship for PhD and MPhil students will be increased to encourage them on research, added the VC.
