Bringing Style Back
There is something infectious about watching the West Indies team dance the Gangnam Style. 33 years is a long time to wait, but finally, the Caribbean is back, though we doubt their predecessors danced that well! They don't have Haynes and Greenidge anymore. They don't have a Viv Richards or a Clive Lloyd (they have Sammy, which should deduct a few points). The Quartet of Garner, Marshall, Roberts and Holding are long gone. But what they have is a Gayle. They have a Samuels. They have a Narine who bamboozles the best players of spin in the world.
It is hard not to be emotional. But you have to ask, are West Indies a great team? Yes, now that the WICB has gained some sense. Are they the best ever? Nowhere close. But a few months ago, during IPL our resident sports geek grumbled about West Indies crumpling against England in Tests while Gayle was hitting sixes everywhere and Narine was taking wickets like it was nobody's business. But now, with a united team as well as a Chanderpaul who just refuses to give up, we'd love to see a rematch of the tour.
All rise for the champions!

With The Casual Vacancy out, a lot of us are taking a stroll through memory lane - J. K. Rowling was a very big part of childhood for us. Almost every fan, no matter how old, has, at one point or other, wanted to lead the Hogwarts life. First day of school would be awesome. And the food (drools)…
Wouldn't it be great to dine in the grandeur of Hogwarts' Great Hall while thousands of house-elves serve you with the finest of delicacies? Aside from the thrill and magic derived from Harry, Hermione and Ron's adventures, the Harry Potter books also give us a dip at mouth-watering food items which we wish were real (aside from ear wax flavoured Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans). But some are actually real. Yes, you can actually enjoy a glass of pumpkin juice during the summer heat and a bowl of Every Flavour Beans while watching your favourite movie.
And the most exciting of all, you could have a taste of Butterbeer. This non-alcoholic drink not only makes an interesting choice to add zest to your usual menu, it also takes you back to the scenes inside The Three Broomsticks where so many things happened. It's a fairly simple drink to make with most ingredients available at superstores like Lavender or Dhali.
Butterbeer
Ingredients:
1 cup club soda or cream soda
1/2 cup butterscotch syrup (ice cream topping)
1/2 tablespoon butter
Procedure:
First, measure and mix the butterscotch and butter into 2 cups. Microwave for 1-1.5 minutes, or until the syrup is bubbly and the butter is completely incorporated into the mixture. Stir and cool for 30 seconds and then slowly mix in the soda. Mixture will fizz quite a bit.
Serves: 2

Usain Bolt will probably soon be the first human being to break the sound barrier without any aircraft or car the way he is going. Makes you wonder, who would win, The Flash or Bolt if they decided to compete. Speaking of The Flash, the people who made the Thrust SSC were probably big fans. The ugly car was to become the first land based vehicle to break the speed of sound. Then again speed isn’t always good. Like the time Britney Spears and Jason Alexander went through their whole martial life and subsequent divorce in record speed - in a mere 55 hours.
Speaking of fast things, is there anyone who did not love the Turbokat from the Swat Kats or the Mach 5 from Speed Racer (the cartoon of course). We all get that rush when thinking of going fast, the excitement, the glamour - and then realisation comes that there’s a record for the fastest someone went one mile in a sack race. Or the fastest 100 miles a dog can go on a skateboard.
For the speed-junkies among us, the roads here are metaphorical oysters. Try breaking the record of the fastest time from Gulshan to Dhanmondi. Anything under two hours on a weekday, and you should probably call Guinness.
