[WATCH] Baatighar: Readers’ Big Den

Bookstore Baatighar began its journey in 2005 in an area of around hundred square feet in Cheragi Pahar, Chittagong. Within a very short span of time the store’s friendly atmosphere became popular in the city. From its initial tiny shop of only 100 square feet it has now expanded to a 1600 square feet haven for book-lovers of all ages as well a hub for writers and cultural activists.

In the last one decade, the store evolved into a massive one, now offering around 75000 books of at least 1800 writers. The architecture of store itself attracts people because it was designed after wooden ships.

The store regularly invites national and international writers to its premises to interact with readers. Indian writers Subodh Sarkar, Vikram Seth and Gautam Bhadra are among these guests.

Owner of the store Dipankar Das said he always wanted a place where readers would not only visit to buy books but would also walk around freely to browse through the books and read a few pages.

Baatighar’s large array of books makes it a readers’ haven.
