Inflation creeps up in November

The inflation edged up due to price hike of food and nonfood items in November this fiscal year.

The inflation stood at 6.85 per cent up 58 basis points last month from the previous month, Planning Minister MA Mannan told reporters after Ecnec meeting held at NEC conference room at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka today.

The minister held the price hike of onion and rice responsible for the rise of inflation rate.

However, Mannan expressed his hope that the inflation rate will come down in December when food items like vegetable will be available in the market in the month.

The increases in both food and non-food inflation in November was 6.41 percent and 5.47 percent while it was 5.49 percent and 5.47 percent in October in the current fiscal year.

The general point-to-point basis inflation in rural area stood 6.01 in November while it was 5.36 percent was in October 2019.

The increases in both food and nonfood inflation in October stood 6.54 and 4.99 percent in November while it was 5.56 percent and 4.96 percent in October this year.
