Bangladesh’s per capita income falls 1% to $2,763

It is the first fall in around eight years

The per capita income in Bangladesh declined 1 per cent year-on-year to $2,763 in 2022-23 owing to the devaluation of the local currency against the US dollar, the first fall in around eight years, said a planning ministry official, citing Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) estimate.

The per capita income was $2,793 in 2021-22 fiscal year, up from $2,591 in 2020-21.

State Minister for Planning Shamsul Alam said per capita income grew in taka terms as the economy grew 6.03 per cent this fiscal year.

He did not disclose the actual estimate of per capita income but said the figure would be below $2,800.
