‘Banks have Tk 169,586 crore excess liquidity, no crisis at all’

Bangladesh Bank says in urgent notice

Bangladesh's banks have Tk 169,586 crore excess liquidity and there is no liquidity crisis in the country's banking sector, Bangladesh Bank said in an urgent notice today.

The banking regulator also said it has issued special alert for all managing directors to solve any liquidity crunch.

"If any bank faces any problem in liquidity management, Bangladesh Bank will give highest importance to bring a solution to it."

A conspiracy is now going on in social media platforms regarding withdrawal of bank deposits, the notice read.

To ensure sound liquidity management, Bangladesh Bank has kept active its repo and assured liquidity support policy, it said. "Moreover, banks' inspection and supervision are also going on in full force."

The banking watchdog said no bank was shut in independent Bangladesh in the last 51 years and none will be closed also in the future.

"Peoples' savings in banks are fully safe and nothing has happened to panic about the deposits."
