Purchase committee okays import of MOP fertiliser from Canada

5 proposals worth Tk 1304.13 crore approved

Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase today approved five proposals worth Tk 1304.13 crore including import of Muriate-of-Potash (MOP) fertiliser from Canadian Commercial Corporation.

The approved proposals include—importing of 50,000 metric tons Muriate-of-Potash (MOP) fertiliser from Canadian Commercial Corporation worth Tk 414.13 crore by the agriculture ministry.

Another approved proposal included purchasing six container scanner system from Nutech Company Ltd worth Tk 327.1 crore under the Internal Resources division.

Meanwhile, three proposals have been approved under the Ministry of Industries. They are importing 30,000 metric tons bulk granular urea worth Tk 188.93 crore from UAE's Fertiglobe Distribution Ltd, another 30,000 metric tons bulk granular urea from Qatar's Muntajat worth Tk 188.93 crore; and purchasing 30,000 metric tons of bagged granular urea worth Tk 185.13 crore from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Limited.

Of the proposals, three were proposed by the Ministry of Industries, and one each by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Internal Resource Division.

The government will supply funds worth Tk 327.1 crore while the lions share—Tk 977.12 crore, will be collected through loans from local banks, according to the finance ministry statement.

Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal presided over the virtual meeting.
